The House of Reps Caucus Supports The Removal Of Lai Mohammed In The Wake Of The #EndSARS Killings
The Minority Caucus in the House of Reps has on Sunday called for the immediate dismissal of Laid Muhammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information.
Ndudi Elumelu, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, said in a statement that the report by the Lagos Judicial panel set up to uncover the hidden truths about the Lekki toll gate shooting of unarmed protesters was sufficient reason for the Minister to resign or be removed by the President.
The statement said, “The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives, after a thorough review of the report of the Lagos State EndSARS judicial panel, holds that the attempt by officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to cover up the now confirmed bloody massacre of Nigerian youths by security forces at the Lekki Tollgate suggests a high-level state-backed conspiracy against Nigerians.”
The statement further revealed that a report submitted by the Lagos Panel confirmed there were indeed killings at the Toll Gate, but the truth, which AOC, in connivance with security agencies under its supervision, vehemently denied. He stated that the APC controlled security forces of the truth carted away bodies and mopped up the evidence to cover the truth.
The Minority Caucus further expressed shock over the motive under which Alhaji Lai Muhammed, who was supposed to know the truth, was said to have affirmed that no life was lost at the Lekki Toll Gate, preempting the possible outcome of the panel set up to investigate the incident.
The group further expressed its disappointment over the attitude of the APC-led Federal Government to having been enmeshed in such an uncoverable lie over the gruesome killings of innocent Nigerians, especially youths. and even attempt to provide official cover for the culprits.
And, as the people’s representative, the Minority Caucus believes that the killing of innocent Nigerian youths demanding justice and the rule of law will haunt the administration until justice is served.
It should be noted that until the innocent youths at the Lekki Toll Gate are brought to justice, their killers and all those involved in the cover-up will not be able to rest.
The group, however, calls on the APC-led administration to come clean over the issue and that Alhaji Lai Muhammed should honorably resign or be sanctioned by the President, Muhammadu Buhari. ”
The group, however, commended the Lagos panel for its doggedness in fearlessly revealing the truth.
It then urged the other panels investigating police brutality not to be discouraged to prevent truths from being suppressed.
It then commiserated with the family of the slain youths while urging Nigerians to remain calm at this important moment, promising to leave no stone unturned in using all legislative instruments to join forces with other well-meaning Nigerians to get justice for the people.
