A police officer is currently in detention after a bullet from his rifle killed his colleague during patrol in Cross River state.
His colleague’s name is Sergeant Francis Agube, who just got married.
Reports say that the incident happened around Efiggy roundabout when the officers were on patrol duty in the state’s capital.
Irene Ugbo, spokesperson of the Cross River state police command, said Sergeant Agube was married in November 2021 and his wife is pregnant.
Both the police officer and the late Sergeant Francis Agube were attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
A police officer who was an eyewitness of the incident said the unfortunate incident happened when the bullet hit the officer in his neck and shattered his face.

When they arrived at the station, Sergeant Ubi wanted to adjust his gun, and the bullet accidentally discharged, striking Sergeant Agube, who sat down in front of him.
The Cross Rivers state police command said they had kept the deceased dead body in the mortuary.
Irene Ugbo also said that an investigation into the matter has begun and the officer who owns the gun is in detention.
“We will not bury Sergeant Agube until the investigation has ended.” What happened is really sad, but we are investigating the matter, “she said.
