Nigeria And UAE Lift Travel Restrictions, Signing New Agreement

The Nigerian government and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government have agreed to lift the travel restrictions between the two countries.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Musa Nuhu, who gave the information in a statement, said this comes after the federal government’s review and accepted the “Safety Decision 2021-02 Issue 24” which the General Civil Aviation Authority in the United Arab Emirates released.

He added that Air Peace, which is the Nigerian operator, and Emirates Airlines have the freedom to resume scheduled passenger flights between the two countries under the terms and conditions of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which is between them.

Part of the conditions says all parties must ensure strict compliance with the Coronavirus Travel Protocols, which are in the two countries.

The Director General also said that the authorities in the Emirates should approve the request of Air Peace to resume transporting passengers from March 1st, 2022.

This development came after the United Arab Emirates announced that they would lift the suspension on all entry and transit passenger flights from 12 African countries, which include Nigeria, from the 29th of January, 2022.

Emirates Travel updates

The UAE suspended flights from many destinations in Africa after the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, passengers from all the 12 countries would need to test for COVID-19 three times before they would be allowed to enter the UAE.

They would first have a negative COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before departure, then a negative rapid-PCR test in the departure airport, and finally another rapid PCR when they arrive in the UAE.
