In Lagos, Dowen College has denied an accusation which said that one of their students died because he did not want to join a cult.
This news came after a Twitter user claimed that some students in the school injured and killed his cousin after he did not want to join a cult.
But the school, Dowen College, said in a statement that the allegation is not true.
A Twitter user who is identified by his username, Perrison Oromoni, who claimed to be the cousin of the student, posted some allegations on Twitter, saying;
“This is my 12-year-old cousin who they beat to death in a school which costs over 1 million naira,” The user posted on his Twitter page with photos of the “deceased”.
The school later released a statement saying the allegations are not true, adding that one of the school’s hostel officials had informed the management on the 21st of November that the student was injured when he was playing football with his fellow students or classmates.
Dowen College said the resident nurse gave him first aid treatment and later he went back to his hostel after expressing relief.
The school added that the next day, the student started complaining of pain in his hip, and the resident doctor in the school’s clinic attended to him.
Adding that the doctor later called the student’s mother to inform her of the situation and also asked her to pick him up for further medical treatment.
The statement further claimed that, after some delay, the student’s mother later sent someone to come pick him up and carry him to the hospital for an x-ray.
The guardian later called to inform the school that the results of the x-ray did not show that any part of the student’s body was injured or broken.
They also said it is unfortunate that fake news about his death has become a trend on social media platforms.
