Court Of Appeal Overturn Life Imprisonment Sentence Of Prophet Babatunde, Founder Of Sotitobire Church
In Akure, Ondo state, The court of appeal in the capital has set aside the judgement of the state’s high court which sentenced Prophet Babatunde, founder of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel.
This ruling came a year after the state’s high court sentenced the founder, Sotitobire Prophet Babatunde, and five others to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of child kidnapping.
One of the members of the church who attended the court’s ruling today, Roseline Aribo, confirmed that they are happy that their founding pastor is free.
The founder of the Sotitobire Miracle Centre, Prophet Babatunde, was accused of the kidnapping of a year-old boy who is identified as Gold Kolawole, who was missing from a church in the year 2019.
Ondo High Court Judge, Justice Odusola, sentenced the founding pastor and five others after he found them guilty of the two-count charge of kidnapping and aiding and abetting to kidnap based on the evidence the prosecution presented.
The founding pastor later appealed the judgement.
Today In Akure, the court of appeal later ruled that Founding Pastor Babatunde was not involved in the kidnapping and was innocent of all the accusations against him.
Justice Hamma Barka, who ruled the case, said there is not enough evidence to sentence Pastor Babatunde to life imprisonment and there is no enough evidence to say he was involved in the kidnapping of the missing child.
