Kogi State Government Threatens To Sue EFCC Over Hidden 20 Billion Naira Allegations

The Kogi State government has threatened to sue the EFCC if they do not withdraw the statement accusing the government of concealing 19.3 billion in salary bailout funds for Sterling Bank within the next 48 hours.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, who denied the allegation, said the EFCC is misleading Nigerians and its goal is to defame Kogi State’s Governor’s name.

The Kogi state government accused the Kogi government of using salary bailout money to fix the deposit for Sterling Bank Plc account to yield interest instead of paying workers.

The EFCC said they saw something fishy about the account, but the Kogi state government denied the allegations against them.

Wilson Uwajaren, Spokesperson of the Efcc, said in a statement on November 19, 2021, that the Sterling Bank, with the account name “Kogi State Salary Bailout Account”, has returned the bailout money back to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Although the statement made the Kogi state government angry, they gave the corruption police a warning to apologise or face the consequences of their actions.
