ISWAP Kill Brigadier General And Three Soldiers

A Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army and three other soldiers were killed by suspected militants (ISWAP) in an attack in Borno State.

Suspected Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters engaged in a gun battle with troops at a military base in Nigeria’s northeast.

The Nigerian Army released a statement on Saturday afternoon saying that the Brigadier General, Dzarma Zirkusu, and three other soldiers died in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, where the military base is located.

The Nigerian army also said in their statement that their troops successfully defended the location.

At the time the Army released their statement, the Air Component of Operation Hadan Kai sent five A-Jets.

They also sent two Dragon combat vehicles and two A-29s to destroy nine gun trucks and an APC.

Attacks on military bases have become worrisome in the country, and the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House Assembly, Engineer Abdullahi Musa Askira, told local reports, Daily Trust, that the insurgents and troops are currently exchanging gunfire, but the residents are inside the forest.

The Nigerian Army added in their statement that the Chief of Army Staff has apologised to the families and relatives of the Brigadier General and three soldiers who died.

Lieutenant general of the Nigerian Army, Faruk Yahaya, also directed the troops to continue aggressive counter attacks to eliminate the remaining insurgents who are on the run.
