Actor Chiwetalu Agu Reveals How The Nigerian Army And DSS Treated Him During His Detention

Popular Nigerian actor, Chiwetalu Agu, reveals what happened to him while he was in the Nigerian Army and DSS custody.

The Nollywood actor was in an interview with BBC Igbo, and he said the Nigerian Army who arrested him in Onitsha did not treat him well, but the Department of Security Service (DSS), who later took him into custody, tried to treat him well.

Some Nigerian soldiers arrested Chiwetalu Agu on the 8th of October, 2021 for encouraging the public to support the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), because he wore a shirt which design resembled the IPOB’s flag.

“The most important thing in this matter is that the design on my shirt was that of a rising sun. The rising sun design is not new. The rising sun design has been existing since Ojukwu came out saying we should defend ourselves in Nigeria’s hand. It was Ojukwu who brought up the rising sun.”

Chiwetalu Agu revealed that when the Nigerian soldiers handed him to the intelligence officer in the Nigerian army in Enugu, they questioned him for up to 10 hours. They seized his phone, and searched it for anything which was related to the IPOB.

“They held my phone and searched it, but they did not find anything. After the Army finished interrogating me, they sent me to the DSS.” The actor said.

“The DSS took me to Abuja, but the treatment that they gave me there was not the best, but they tried their best,” Chiwetalu Agu revealed.

The actor also said that the DSS tried their best to give him the kind of food he eats at home, but his food was not given on time and it affected him because he has stomach ulcer.

The DSS also searched his phone and asked him many questions about the data and information in it.
