Nigeria Restores Light Supply Nationwide After National Grid Collapse

Published

Nigeria’s Ministry of Power reveals how they supplied light nationwide after the national grid collapsed.

The collapse of Nigeria’s national grid two times in a week left millions of Nigerians in darkness.

During the blackout, electricity consumers across Nigeria, particularly in Lagos, Enugu, Ibadan, and Anambra, were left in the dark.

The national grid is a public electricity power system that supplies light to homes, offices, and other public places all over Nigeria.

According to BBC Pidgin, light has started coming in small amounts in some of the affected areas.

But steady public power supply all over Nigeria is still a headache, even in the country’s economy.

Just over 4000MW of electricity is what Nigeria gets on the grid to supply over 200 million Nigerians.

The Federal Government of Nigeria explained the cause of the national grid collapse in Nigeria.

The Nigerian minister of power said a cut to a transmission line collapse caused a power outage.

Abubakar Aliyu went on to say that they are making quick arrangements for the supply of some gas plants in order to increase the number of megawatts in the grid.

The Federal Ministry of Power explained the reason behind the system’s collapse, which led to no light across the nation.

According to a statement from the Minister, which was released on Saturday, the reason behind the blackouts nationwide is because of a 330KV transmission line being cut.

They also revealed that Nigerians lost about 1,100 MW of generation capacity on the national grid.

The Power Ministry revealed that it was because of the blockage of gas supply to the Okpai, Calabar, and Afam VI power plants.

And also the water management system that goes on in the Kainji, Jebba, and Shiroro power plants.

He went on to say that as a result of the problem, Aliyu quickly called a meeting today to fix the problem.
