INEC Announces New Dates For 2023 General Elections
Nigeria’s election office [INEC] has announced new dates for the 2023 general elections.
Presidential and National Assembly elections would happen on February 25, 2023.
While voting for the government and state houses of assembly would take place on March 11th, 2023,
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, was the one who made the announcement on Saturday afternoon in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu said the new date is to allow conformity with the new electoral laws that President Buhari signed on February 25, 2022.
Inec said they would publish notice of the election on February 28, 2022.

After that, the conduct of party primaries and resolution of party disputes would happen from the 4th of April to the 3rd of June, 2022.
Submission of nomination forms would start from June 10th to July 15th, 2022.
The campaign would start on September 28th, 2022 and end on March 9th, 2023.
The Electoral Amendment Act says an election notice must be published at least 260 days before the election.
The 2023 general election across Nigeria’s 36 states would see the use of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System, or BVAS, machine.
The new BVAS device replaced the Smart Card Reader (SCR) used by INEC in previous elections since 2015.
