2023: Saraki’s Campaign Posters Flood Abuja Streets
Nigeria’s former senate president and ex-governor of Kwara State Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki is set to run for president in 2023 as his campaign posters flood the streets of Abuja.
They were seen in strategic places like the Banex flyover and bridge with the inscription, “Saraki for president, coming soon.” The former Director General of Atiku Abubakar 2019 presidential campaign has also not denied reports that he intends to run for President in 2023.
Rather than denying any knowledge of the posters like many politicians, he again declared his intention while visiting the Benue State Governor Mr. Samuel Ortom in Makurdi. The former Senate President said that his party, the PDP is on a rescue mission.
Mr. Samuel Ortom is also a strong member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) like Dr. Bukola Saraki. They both defected from the APC in the buildup to the 2019 general elections and have remained steadfast.
Saraki contested the PDP Presidential primaries which produced Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He came third behind Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. His victory at the tribunal which tried him for corruption and found him innocent has broaden his popularity. He is also perceived as a man with integrity.
Senator Saraki is trying to make the case for a presidential candidate from the north central zone. The PDP may zone its presidential ticket to the north and the senator wants to rally north central politicians to create a strong force ahead of the PDP primary.
Saraki did not visit the Benue State governor alone. He went with other PDP chieftains, including former Kogi State Governor Captain Idris Wada.
