Tinubu Clears Air On What He Said About PVC

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has clarified what he said about the Permanent Voters Card, or PVC.

This happened after a video of the leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, started to trend on social media.

In the video, he said, “They might not tell you now… the PVC has expired.”

Bola Tinubu added that elections are reducing because the cards are expiring.

He had said this in a meeting with female leaders of the ruling APC in Abuja.

Tunde Rahman, Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, issued a statement to clear the air on what Tinubu truly meant.

In the statement, he explained that he just meant that voters might need to update their PVCs.

He mistakenly used the word “expire” instead of stating that the cards might need to be updated. Immediately they told him, Asiwaju apologised for the incorrect statement, and he felt sorry for any confusion he might have caused. ” The statement said.

The statement added that Bola Tinubu asked the women to continue to mobilize voters to update their PVCs and help encourage people to vote.

Although, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, PVCs can never expire.

On Wednesday, Rotimi Oyekanmi posted on his Twitter that PVC, which is issued by Inec, cannot expire. He added that they do not have an expiry date on them and as long as the security chip that is on the card is not damaged, it remains valid.

“The PVC issued by INEC does not expire. In fact, it does not have an expiry date printed on it. As long as the security chip on it is not damaged, it remains valid. Therefore, registered voters do not need to register again. Double registration is an offence.” Rotimi Oyekanmi said.
