Victor Osimhen Scores As Super Eagles won 2-1 In Their FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifying match
Nigeria came from behind to beat Cape Verde 2-1 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on Tuesday, the 7th of September, 2021.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was the one who scored the equalising goal for Nigeria.
Victor Osimhen scored from a defensive mistake in the Cape Verde penalty box in the 28th minute, and that score was after the host took the lead through Dylain Tavares in the 19th minute.
Nigeria continued to put Cape Verde under pressure but failed to add another goal as the first half ended 1-1.
Throughout the second half, Nigeria continued to mount pressure on the host defence, and eventually the pressure paid off.
Another defensive mistake from the home team was when they scored a goal in the 74th minute.
This result means that Nigeria got six points from two games and they are sitting in group C ahead of Liberia, which is in second position with three points.
Only the group winners will advance to go to the third and final round, and in the final round they will decide the five African teams which will qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar.
Ahmed Musa, the captain of the team, earned his 100th cap for Nigeria.
Because of the British government’s strict regulations on Covid-19 and countries on their redlist, the Super Eagles were without their UK-based players in this match.
Nigeria’s next match is against the Central African Republic in October, 2021.
