“Nigerian States You Should Avoid When Travelling” – UK Warns Its Citizens

In the UK, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, or FCDO/FCO, warns citizens of the United Kingdom not to travel to specific states in Nigeria.

On the 16th of October, 2021, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office warned citizens to avoid some Nigerian states, adding that the reason is because of the security threats, increase in protests, crime, civil unrest, terrorism, kidnapping and maritime crime, that are happening in the states.

The authority revealed attacks and targeted killings in the Southern region of Nigeria, adding that the attacks and killings happen in isolated roads and remote locations.

The FCO mentioned the states in two categories, and the first set are; Borno State, Adamawa State, Yobe State, Kaduna State, Katsina State, Gombe State, Zamfara State, Riverine areas of Delta State, Cross River State, Rivers State, Akwa Ibom State, and Bayelsa State.

The first set of states are those that advise citizens against all travel.

The second set of states are those that the FCO advises citizens to not travel to unless they are traveling for something important. They are; Bauchi State, Jigawa State, Kano State, Niger State, Kogi State, Sokoto State, Abia State, Kebbi State, non-riverine areas of Delta, Rivers and Bauchi State.

The FCO also advised citizens to be wary when they visit Lagos and Abuja as they warned them to avoid large gatherings and listen to local news reports for safety.
