Market Women Devastated As Fire Outbreak Destroys Market Boats In Port Harcourt

Three fire outbreaks have happened in three different locations for three days in Port Parcourt.

The fire outbreak has made many people in the city wonder what actually caused the fire outbreak.

On November 22, 2021, a woman was devastated after losing three children in a fire outbreak at Nembe jetty in Creek Toad, old Port Harcourt Township.

The mother left her children on a cargo boat, which they identified as a “market boat,” to go shopping, but by the time she returned, the fire had spread to the boat where her children were.

Rivers State police have recovered the skulls of three children and an adult from the ashes of the fire outbreak in the Nembe waterside.

People who live around the area say that the fire outbreak started around 10 a.m. on Monday from one of the boats that carried petroleum products and reached other market boats that were transporting foodstuffs.

Seven cargo boats were burned completely in the fire, and traders, mostly women who sell crayfish and dried fish, are currently calculating their losses as all the foodstuffs in the market boats were burnt.
