Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, affectionately known as Jnr Pope, was a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, celebrated for his talents as an actor, filmmaker, model, and philanthropist.

Early Life & Education

Born on May 7, 1984, in Bamenda, Cameroon, to Mr. and Mrs. Luke Odonwodo, Jnr Pope’s roots trace back to Enugu State in the eastern part of Nigeria. Raised in Cameroon, he completed his primary and secondary education there, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and West African Senior School Certificate (WASSC). Upon relocating to Nigeria, he pursued higher education at the University of Nsukka, where he studied Accountancy and earned his degree.

Career

Jnr Pope’s foray into acting began in 2006, marked by perseverance and dedication as he attended auditions and honed his craft. His breakthrough came in 2007 with his role in “Secret Adventure,” directed by the renowned Tchidi Ckikere. Since then, he has graced the screens in over 100 movies, collaborating with industry stalwarts like Sylvester Madu, Ernest Asuzu, and Mr. Ibu, among others.

Coming from a large family of nine, with seven siblings, Jnr Pope was the epitome of family values and support. He shared a blissful life with his wife, Jenifer Awele, and their three sons, Jason, Jaden, and Jamon.

His Death

On April 10, 2024, tragedy struck as Jnr Pope encountered an accident while he was on his way to a movie shoot on a boat. His boat capsized after been hit by another boat and he got stuck in the river and drowned. He was rescued from the depths and was rushed to the riverbank herbalist who performed a ritual on him as he showed signs of being alive. Unfortunately, Junior Pope gave up the ghost.

Rumors say that before he was rushed to the herbalist, the mortuary attendant had rejected him, which made them go to the herbalist for help.
