Federal Government Releases New COVID-19 Guidelines For Christmas Celebrations

The Nigerian federal government of Nigeria has declared that religious gatherings should not exceed 50% capacity because of the rapid spread of COVID-19.

Their declaration was announced by the secretary to the Nigerian Federal government and presidential steering committee, Boss Mustapha, in a statement yesterday.

The Federal government also advised that families should limit the number of visitors they would receive during the festive period because Nigeria has been experiencing the fourth wave of COVID-19.

They released new guidelines as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control raised the alarm that the country is experiencing a 500% increase in daily COVID-19 cases.

The President Steering Committee said the country has entered the fourth wave of COVID-19 due to the many positive cases that they have recorded.

“What caused this fourth wave is because vaccination coverage is low, people are traveling too much, people are not complying with public health social measures, and a highly transmissible Omicron SARS-Cov-2 variant is circulating in the country.” They said

In a statement released by the secretary, the head of the presidential steering committee revealed new guidelines to avoid further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

  • Churches are supposed to operate during this period at 50% capacity.
  • Families are advised to limit the number of visitors to their houses and put in place precautionary safety measures.
  • Any gathering which passes 50% should be an outside gathering, and it should be with physical distancing.
  • Nigerians should avoid interstate travel, which is not important.
  • Take the COVID-19 test if you want to travel.
  • Nigerians should wear facemasks and use hand sanitizers.
  • Make sure that you have taken your full dose of COVID-19 and the booster dose to be eligible to travel.
