Shocking! 5 Nigerian Politicians That May Not Be Active In The 2023 Presidential Election

The 2023 presidential election is around the corner.

It will take place in less than 3 years from now. That is why Nigerian politicians have been throwing their weight into campaigns. Although it is not yet the right time for campaigns, many Nigerian politicians are already making their ambitions public.

However, many of these politicians may not take part in the 2023 presidential elections for many reasons. They are all healthy and it has nothing to do with their existence but political tide by swallow-up many of them.

  1. Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has created many political sons one of whom is the current Vice President Yemi Osibanjo. Tinubu being the political father of key politicians like Osibanjo, Fayemi, among others, may step down for one of his loyal sons to take part in the forthcoming 2023 election.

This was hinted at by the current Kogi State governor Alh. Yahaya Bello who in a live interview stated that he has high regard for Tinubu but knows that he will support younger politicians and political sons. By 2023, Tinubu will be over 70 years of age and he will be one of the oldest if he decides to contest.

2. Alhaji Yahaya Bello

Since he declared his interest to run for president various allegations have been made against the youngest serving state governor in Nigeria. Yahaya Bello has been dragged before the EFCC for allegedly stocking state bail-out funds meant for teachers’ salaries in a bank. The governor denied any wrongdoing but the money has been returned to the CBN, a sign that he may face litigations as soon as he leaves office.

These legal issues may keep the young politician too occupied to take an active part in the 2023 presidential election. Many Nigerian politicians have had their reputations and career ruined as a result of corruption cases.

3. Fr. Ejike Mbaka

Although the Roman Catholic Priest Ejike Mbaka is not a politician, his Adoration Ministries is a hotbed for politicking during elections. Nigerian politicians irrespective of party and religious inclinations visit Adoration Ministries and make pledges and vows to woo voters.

Mbaka has predicted the electoral victory of many politicians including President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Hope Uzodinma off Imo State. Following his fallout with the Buhari-led federal government, the Catholic church temporarily closed the Adoration Ministry and sentenced Mbaka to one month of prayer and silence over partisan politics.

Since his return, he has not been making very controversial statements as usual despite various politicians visiting the Adoration Ministry in Enugu State. The authorities of the Catholic church may further weaken his political influence ahead of 2023 hence, his voice may be silenced.

4. Omoyele Sowore

The vocal activist and government critic Mr. Omoyele Sowore is facing a legal battle for leading a protest to cause a revolution in Nigeria. Sowore, a former presidential aspirant was detained for many weeks and he is now on bail. As part of his bail conditions, he cannot travel out of Abuja, unlike many Nigerian politicians that are already campaigning indirectly. Hence, his political connections across Nigeria have been weakened. He could also face detention ahead of the 2023 presidential election as the government keeps bringing up more charges against him.

5. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

After losing the 2019 presidential election to President Buhari, many supporters now doubt the political capacity of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. But Atiku is not relenting. However, by 2023 the Turakin Adamawa may be far above 70 years. Also if his party does not zone the presidency to the north, he may have a hard time defeating other Nigerian politicians from the South.

Even if the position is zoned to the north, his critics think that Atiku has used up his chances of becoming Nigeria’s president. The political heavyweight may bow to pressure and support much younger Nigerian politicians for the 2023 presidential elections.
