Anambra Poll: INEC’s BVAs Voting Technology Is A Total Failure -Soludo

The ongoing election in Anambra has been described as a shamble owing to the failure of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to function well.

Charles Soludo, the governorship candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, while speaking with Arise Television reporter on Saturday at his ward in Ifiyi Isuofia, Anambra State. Soludo said that the technical hitches encountered by INEC officials at the different voting centers in the state is disrupting the poll.

For instance, as at 12:30pm in the day, voting is yet to commence in most of the polling units in the state, while those polling units which has started has experienced malfunction system making accreditation and voting very slow.

He said in a statement that “For the few places where they are doing it, technology that I understand ought to take seconds to accredit someone, takes twenty minutes, some thirty, some five and so on. It raises fundamental questions about technology. I’m a bit shocked to hear this, and it is all over the state.”

He noted that in some places where voting had started and have about 800 to 900 voters, only a very few people have been able to vote.

This calls to question the supposed preparation INEC boasted about.

According to Soludo, INEC had not deployed enough staff for the poll. For instance, he cited Uke. Wjere there are supposed to be 17 polling units, but which have only 5 INEC officials.

Another problem he cited include the absence of security men at some polling  units.

He, however, expressed optimism that the process would improve and encouraged voters to remain patient despite the glitches.
