
18-year-old Ada Joy Okonkwo, and her 60-year-old mother, Christiana Okonkwo, were arrested by police in Enugu State in connection with the nrder of a newborn son.
According to reports, the incident occurred on November 7 at Olocha-Adogba in the Awgu community of the state.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the state police command’s spokesperson, preliminary investigation shows that the said mother of the newborn child used a kitchen knîfe to stâb the child to deâth, following her mother’s counseling, moments after she was delivered of the baby at home.

Ndukwe stated that the child was taken to the hospital and confirmed deâd by the on-duty doctors, and that the córpse was deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The police PRO stated that the state Commissioner of Police has called on citizens of the community, particularly women who participated in a peaceful demonstration, to express their displeasure with the act, to maintain peace, and to refrain from acts that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the community.
