Wizkid Congratulates Angelique Kidjo, DJ Black Coffee For Grammy Wins

Two days after Grammys, Wizkid, whose real name name is Ayo Balogun, congratulated the African Grammy winners.

On Tuesday, Wizkid wrote on Instagram, “Love to my brother, true King, Black Coffee and Queen Angelique Kidjoe for the wins, African music rising”

Benin singer, Angelique Kidjo, won her fifth Grammy during the 64th edition of the music ceremony.


Her album “Mother Nature” won in the category of Best Global Music Albums, which also had the Nigerian singer’s album “Made in Lagos” nominated.

South African singer DJ Black Coffee also won his first Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.

Meanwhile, Wizkid’s album, “Made In Lagos,” lost out to Benin singer Angelique Kidjoe for her album “Mother Nature” in the Best Global Music Album category.

“Four years ago I stood on this stage, I told you all to that the new generation of artists who have come up from Africa would take you by storm and the time had come,” she said in her acceptance speech, bowing to Wizkid and the others.

Wizkid collaboration with Tems and Justin Bieber on Essence, a song that topped many charts around the world was nominated for Best Global Music Performance.

In that category, Pakistani Arooj Aftab won the Grammy. which is her and her country’s first Grammy.
