“Why I’m Using My Mum’s Name” – Asake
Popular singer, Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, has shared the story behind his stage name.
According to him, he adopted his mother’s name as his stage name due to its origin in his cultural group. People used to refer to him as ‘omo Asake,’ which translates to ‘child of Asake’ in Yoruba.
Over time, the ‘omo’ was dropped, and he became known simply as ‘Asake.’ He found it appealing and decided to embrace it as his stage name because he thought it was cool.
He expressed his commitment to singing in Yoruba, emphasizing its significance to him. He stated that he would not deviate from it, as it has played a crucial role in his journey as an artist and has contributed to his success.
This insight was shared during his interview for Pause Magazine’s Autium 2023 edition.
