
President Muhammadu Buhari says the Nigerian government has given Nnamdi Kanu, who is in the DSS’s custody, an opportunity to defend himself.
The President said that when the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] was abusing the Nigerian Federal government abroad, nobody said anything.
As President Buhari was answering questions on Channels TV, he said that now that Nnamdi Kanu has been arrested, people have been begging him to release him.
The President added that he should face the court to be judged for what he has done.
When the president was asked if he considers the promise he made to South-East leaders who visited him some months ago on the release of Nnamdi Kanu, he said,

“There is an institution which I would not dare to interfere with, the Judiciary. I cannot interfere with the Judiciary.”
Nnamdi Kanu’s case is with the Judiciary. What I wonder is that when Nnamdi Kanu was in Europe abusing this administration and mentioning many things, we did not say anything.
“We are giving him an opportunity to defend himself. He should not be abusing us from Europe as if he is not a Nigerian.” Let him come here, let him be with us, let him criticise us here. ”
President Muhammadu Buhari said he could not secure the release of the IPOB leader who is in the custody of the DSS to answer for his treason offences.
Some leaders from the South East met with the president last year to beg him to release the IPOB leader.
President Buhari said he does not interfere with the judicial arm of the government and what the government can do is give the leader an opportunity to defend himself in Nigeria.
