The United States has imposed sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, including his daughters.
The list also includes the family of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and major banks.
This measures came in the wake of new revelations about the
bad things which Russian troops did in Ukraine, including images of deadbodies of civilians that were scattered on the streets of Bucha, Kyiv.
Even though satellite images show that civilians were dying while Russia is in control of Bucha, Vladimir Putin on Wednesday described the event as “a crude and cynical provocation by the Kyiv regime”.
The US claims that Putin’s daughters, Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova and Maria Vladimirovna Vorontsova, have been sanctioned because they are Putin’s adult children, people who have property and interests for property would will be blocked.”
The announcement described Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova as “a tech executive whose work supports the GoR [Russian government] and the defense industry.”
Her sister, Ms. Vorontsova, says they led state-funded programs that receive billions of dollars from the Kremlin toward genetics research that Putin personally oversees.
When asked why the US is targeting Putin’s daughters, a senior Biden administration official said, “We feel like they are in control of some of their father’s assets.”
“We have reason to believe Putin and many of his allies and oligarchs hide their wealth, their assets, with family members who place their assets and their wealth in the US financial system and also different parts of the world, “the official said.
“We believe many of Putin’s assets are hidden with his family members, and that is why we target them.” He added
