United States Give Travel Restrictions To Nigeria, Reveal When The Restrictions Will Be Effective
As from December 6th, Nigerians will be given travel restrictions from the United Kingdom until further notice because of the new variant of COVID-19, popularly known as Omicron.
The United Kingdom government said they have confirmed 21 cases of the Omicron virus, which are linked to travel from Nigeria.
Canada also said that they have discovered many cases of Omicron in the country and that it is related to people who traveled into Canada from Nigeria.
Because of this theory, Canada gave the west african country a travel ban with some conditions.
Some days later, the US started that strict travel rules will be given to many countries and might affect the countries, including Nigeria.
Earlier this month, The country’s Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the first case of the Omicron variant in the country.
Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, CEO of the NCDC, released a statement which said they identified two cases of the Omicron variant in travellers who entered the country from South Africa.
For now, it is still not clear how many cases Nigeria has recorded since the first reported cases.
