Ghanaian Singer, Shatta Wale Has Been Released From Jail

Ghanaian singer, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, also known as Shatta Wale, is now free. He was released after the court granted self recognizance bail.

The court granted him bail in the sum of 100,000 Ghanaian cedis (6,762,673 naira) after Ghanaian police arrested him last week for allegedly spreading false information that someone had shot him.

The Court charged him with the publication of false information which caused fear and panic among his fans and Ghanaians.

Last Thursday, the Accra Circuit court failed to grant him bail and ordered him to be in prison custody for 5 days.

The Ghanaian Police moved Shatta Wale to the Ankaful Prison where he stayed until his recent hearing, which happened today, the 26th of October, 2021.

Under Ghanaian law, the offense he committed falls under the category of misdemeanours, punishable by various terms of sanctions in Ghana.

Shatta Wale’s offense falls under public nuisances, and Ghanaian lawyer, Lawyer Yaw Oppong, said if a suspect is found guilty of such an offense, the suspect might be jailed for 3 years (maximum).

“Normally the maximum punishment is about 3 years. They might caution him too”, The lawyer said.
