Sadjo, Abiye-David Win Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon
Ismael Sadjo won the 2021 Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon in Warri, Delta State, at the weekend in a time of 29 minutes and 45 seconds.
Sadjo’s time could be a new 10km national record pending corrections. In the men’s race, he proved to be too strong for his opponents, and there was little doubt in his mind that he would win the N1m to prize.
Sadjo gained the lead early and was unchallenged as he coasted to a comfortable finish at the Warri structure.
Stephen Joshua Daylop came in second with a time of thirty.54 seconds, while Emmanuel Gyan, the 2019 champion, came in third with a time of thirty one.04 seconds.
Joy Abiye-David, who won the women’s race, also set a new track record. She finished in 35.02 seconds, with Rose Akusho coming in second in 35.04. Moseje Vera Yohanna came in third with a time of 36.30 seconds.
The race was flagged off by Delta State Deputy Governor Kingsley Brurutu Otuaro. “It was such a delight to finish on time.”
