Profile Of New Governor Of Anambra State, Charles Soludo
Charles Chukwuma Soludo, popularly known as Charles Soludo, was declared the winner of the 2021 Anambra governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC declared Soludo the winner after they announced the result of the Ihiala local government where supplementary elections were held on November 9th, 2021.
Below is the profile of the new governor of Anambra state.
Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo was born on July 28, 1960 to the late Mr. Nze Nwankwo Simeon Soludo and Mgbafor Soludo.
He is from Umueze village, lsuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State and is the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he served for about 5 years.
He graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
During his time at the Central Bank of Nigeria, he made major reforms that observers said helped many banks in Nigeria grow better.
Soludo worked at the World Bank in the year 1993, where he did both long-term and short-term work as a consultant.
Charles Soludo joined the Obasanjo administration as the Economic Advisor to President Muhammadu Buharu and the Chief Executive of the National Planning Committee.
In 2019, President Buhari appointed Soludo as a member of his Economic Advisory Council (EAC). In 2009, when Soludo contested for the Anambra state governorship election under the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he later lost to Peter Obi of the APC, All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Charles Soludo announced on February 20, 2021, that he would run for the Anambra state governorship under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Charles Soludo later emerged as the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate as he scored 740 delegate votes to win over other politicians.
Charles Soludo is happily married to Nonye Chukwuma Soludo, and they are blessed with children. His son, Ozonna Soludo, is well known to have a great talent for singing as he is a rising star in the music industry.
