The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has declared 19 people wanted for operating illegal crude oil refining sites, which are responsible for the black soot problem that Rivers State is experiencing.
Yesterday, the Governor of State broadcast also directed the Rivers State Head of Service to query the Director of the State Ministry of Energy for allegedly supporting and encouraging bunkering activities and to hand him over to the police for investigation and prosecution.
For almost five years, the capital city of the Rivers state, Port Harcourt, has been experiencing a serious air pollution problem, which residents in the city now call “black soot.”
Governor Nyesom Wike said the Rivers state government has taken practical steps to tackle the black soot problem by closing down and destroying all identified illegal crude oil refining sites and activities in the state.
