OAU vs Aishat Adeshina: Management Announces Resumption Date

In Osun State, Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, announces the reopening of the institution after 28 days of closure.

The closure of the institution was as a result of the controversy that followed the students’ protest on 1st October 2021.

The reason for the protest was the death of Aishat Adesina, a graduate of the university’s Department of International Languages, who had passed away after falling ill and the students expressed dissatisfaction with the way the university’s hospital handled the situation.

The students were writing their exam when the protest started, which led to the exam to be postponed.

This statement is contained in a press release issued by the school’s Public Relation Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, after the management’s meeting on the 29th October 2021.

Mr. Olanrewaju stated that students will return to the school on the 5th of November 2021 to continue their exam which will resume on the 6th of November 2021.

Mr. Olanrewaju further advised parents to caution their children and/or wards who have completed their exams to stay at home to prevent breach of peace.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, charged the students to be law-abiding and not to engage in any misdemeanor that could further elongate the session.
