Big Brother Titans, the highly anticipated television reality show, premiered on Sunday.
Unlike the usual Big Brother Naija format, which features only Nigerians, and Big Brother Africa, which features housemates from all over the continent, this show is only open to Nigerians and South Africans.
Cossy, a 25-year-old South African female, was the first Big Brother Titans housemate to be revealed. She described herself as a jovial but also “serious” individual.
Yemi Cregx, a Nigerian, was the second Big Brother Titans housemate to be revealed. He expressed interest in learning more about South Africans during the course of the show.
The two Big Brother Titans Housemates struck up a conversation right away. Cregx once assisted Cossy in adjusting her wig, an action that went viral on social media, with many people posting about it.
Juicy Jay, Nelisa, Mmeli, Khosi, Ipeleng, Thabang, Yaya, Khehla, Tsatii, and Justin are the other South African housemates.
Olivia, Blaqboy, Nana, Marven, Jaypee, Ebubu, Jenni O., Kanaga, and Yvonne are the Nigerian contestants.
The show has generated a lot of buzz, which is to be expected given that it is premiering at a time when the country is gearing up for general elections.
In a speech, John Ugbe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, the show’s organizer, stated that due to the show’s popularity, it was practically unavoidable not to pair Nigerians and South Africans in the same house.
In response to criticism that the show would distract Nigerian youths from the upcoming general elections, he stated that Nigerian youths were aware of their priorities.
He stated, “As two of the biggest economies in Africa, it was only a matter of time before something like this would come up.” “Just like there has been a clash of music genres such as afrobeats (Nigeria) and amapiano (South Africa), there was bound to be something of this nature.”
During the show, the Independent National Electoral Commission made an announcement to educate Nigerians on the process of obtaining permanent voter’s cards.
Viewers were also treated to images of the expansive and well-designed house where the contestants will spend the next few weeks.
The reality show will last 72 days (over 10 weeks). Some elements of Big Brother remain, such as diary sessions, Head of House games, Friday night parties, and tasks.
It will be co-hosted by Nigerian Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and South African Lawrence Maleke.
Saga, Dorathy Bachor, and Gerald are among the guests at the show’s live screening (Nigerian Idol winner). D’banj, the self-proclaimed Koko master, also performed at the event.
The most recent episode of BBN (Level Up) aired between July 23 and October 2, 2022. It was won by Phyna, who walked away with a grand prize of N100 million. The last BBA was held in 2014, almost a decade ago. Tayo Faniran (Nigeria) was the winner, taking home $300,000 in prizes.
