Man Kidnaps 8-Year-Old Stepson, Demands 182,000 Naira Ransom From Wife

Detectives in Kenya rescued an 8-year-old boy who had been kidnapped by his stepfather and reunited him with his distraught mother.
The suspect, identified as Nemwel Ondari, abducted the boy on Saturday, November 12, following a domestic dispute with his wife, Everline Nandera.
Ondari was apprehended after the boy’s worried mother filed a report at the Embakasi police station around 9:30 a.m.
According to a statement released by the DCI, the suspect demanded and threatened to kill the boy with a kitchen knife if the wife did not act quickly.
“Nandera told detectives that she had left their home in Embakasi’s Tel Aviv area at the crack of dawn, headed for Muthurwa market,” the statement read.

When she returned around 9:20 a.m., she discovered her husband and son had gone missing. The husband, Nemwel Ondari, 32, had left a note demanding Sh50,000 in exchange for the boy’s release.
In the note, the man threatened his wife that if she tried any monkey business, he would kill the boy with a kitchen knife he was carrying.
As soon as the woman filed her report at Embakasi police station, detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) based in the DCI Nairobi area gathered and a manhunt for the suspect began.
A few hours later, the detectives were assisted by their Embakasi counterparts in locating and apprehending the suspect at the NMS Green Park matatu terminus off Haile Sellasie avenue.
The detectives discovered that the couple had a heated argument the night before, and that after Everline left early in the morning for Muthurwa to care for her family, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags before fleeing with the boy.
At around 4 p.m., the detectives pounced on the man, who was eagerly awaiting the ransom to be deposited into his Mpesa account.
The mother and child were reunited, and the man was escorted to the Embakasi police station, where he is currently waiting to be arraigned.
