House Of Reps To Thoroughly Investigate Quality Of Toilet Disinfectants

The House of Representatives will conduct a thorough investigation into the quality of toilet disinfectants in Nigeria.

The House of Representatives has decided to look into the efficacy of major toilet wash products on the market.

The resolution to embark on the investigation followed a motion moved by Sergius Ogun of Edo State.

Ogun argued in his motion that toilet cleaning disinfectants such as harpic and hypo, which are commonly used in Nigerian households, are ineffective, of poor quality, and vary in quality.

The lawmaker expressed concern that the advertisement and reality are incompatible, and thus the companies are misleading Nigerians.

“Despite the poor quality of these toilet cleaning disinfectants, there are several television sponsored advertisements that are misleading unsuspecting members of the public who rely on product information from such advertisements to make purchases.”

He stated;

“Section 17(e) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2018 authorizes the Commission to conduct investigations deemed necessary or desirable in connection with matters covered by the Act.”

As a result, the House requested that the Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC appear before the Committee on Commerce to justify the presence of harpic and hypo, as well as other ineffective cleaning disinfectants, on the market.
