Ghana Police Grant Captain Smart Bail, Media General Asks The Authorities To Stop Arresting Journalists

Media General, Chris Koney, and the operators of Onua TV/FM described the arrest of presenter, Captain Smart, as evidence of intolerance which creeps into Ghanaian society.

They said this in a statement after the police service picked up one of their presenters on Onua TV/FM for interrogation.

Today’s arrest and detention of Captain Smart is not an isolated incident, but just another example of the intolerance which increasingly creeps into Ghanaian society,” the company, Onua TV/FM, said in their statement.

Despite the fact that they arrested Captain Smart, the police did not mention the specific things he said that threatened the peace and security of the country.

The police later released Captain Smart on bail and said that they cautioned him on the offence of offensive conduct which can breach peace as provided under section 207 of the Criminal Act of 1960.

However, a viral video shows Captain Smart as he blasted former presidents, respectable chiefs, and the government over the growing hardships in Ghana.

The Media General said that the statement that Captain Smart made was not something that they would interpret like the way the police did.
