Federal Government Declare Public Holiday For Easter Celebrations

Easter is a Christian festival where people celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter signifies the conclusion of a 40-day period of fasting—some Christians call it Lent and the end of Holy Week.

The holiday is usually observed on a Friday or a Monday.

But palm Sunday marks the beginning of Easter. Palm Sunday is used to commemorate Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem.

Nigeria’s government declared two days public holidays to mark this year’s celebration.

Friday, April 15, and Monday, April 18, 2022 are the dates.

Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, made the announcement in a release Today.

Easter Monday in 2022

It was the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore tha signed the statement on behalf of the minister who greeted Christians for the celebration.

He said that the government is working to stop attack by armed men by jaguda boys against people who are traveling whether through railway, road or even airport.

“Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge Nigerians and foreigners who live in the country to display high sense of citizenship in this critical time for the history of our country by supporting the efforts of all security agencies,” Rauf Aregbesola said in his Easter message.
