Federal Executive Council Approves 2 Weeks Paternity Leave For Fathers
The Federal Executive Council, that Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo gave authority to yesterday, approves 14 days (2 weeks) paternity leave for civil servants.
This news was revealed by Nigeria’s Head of civil service, Folasade Yemi-Esan when she had a meeting with reporters.
Nigeria’s Head of civil service, Folasade Yemi-Esan said the 14-day paternity leave will be numbered by working days and not calendar days.
She also added that the 14-day paternity leave is very important because new fathers will be able to have time with their newborn child, children, or adopted children.
But she stated that for adopted children, paternity leave will only be available for fathers who adopt a child or children who are less than 4 months.
Before this latest development, States in Nigeria set the paternity leave for workers for 10 days.
