Drama As EFCC Clash With Prison Officials Over Maina

There was a drama at the federal high court in Abuja on Monday after the Abdulrasheed Maina, the formal chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team (PRTT).

The presiding judge has sentenced Maina to eight years in prison after he was found guilty of money laundering.

Following the sentencing by the judge, prison officials, who had been on hand in the courtroom and within the court premises, led Maina out.

However, confusion began when the operatives of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) insisted that Maina must be taken from the court in their vehicle.

Maina had be ar​raigned on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N2 billion.

Corruption has been a recurrent decimal in Nigeria. In 2012, reports show that Nigeria lost over $400 billion to corruption since its independence in 1960.

In 2018, Transparency International’s ranked Nigeria in its Corruption Index as the 144th in the 180 countries listed (with Somalia, at 180th, being the most corrupt, and Denmark the least).
