The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, has ordered Mr. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and his party to file their joint petition against the February 25 presidential election within three weeks.
The court also ordered the petition’s target, President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to defend his election victory alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, within five days.
Peter Obi had demanded seven weeks to demonstrate their accusations against the disputed election that produced Tinubu through his counsel, Professor Awa Kalu SAN.
Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, the Court’s Chairman, issued the order on Tuesday while submitting the Court’s pre-hearing sessions report.

Among other things, Justice Tsammani directed that Obi’s petition be opened for hearing on May 30 and closed on June 23.
The Court stated that it made the decision due to the short time frame in which the petition must be resolved.
Peter Obi, who was in court to watch the proceedings, took permission from the court and withdrew immediately after the order was issued, claiming that they were going to prepare for the full-fledged hearing of the petition.
Meanwhile, the Court has ordered that the petitions be consolidated in order to ensure a timely hearing.
Tinubu’s and the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) vigorous opposition to the amalgamation was dismissed by the Court.
