Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat singer, was granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Yaba on Tuesday.
The defendant is required to provide two sureties who possess land in Lagos State.
Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun also directed that the probe be completed within 48 hours.
Seun Kuti was charged with assault on a police officer, a violation of Criminal Code Section 356.
S. A. Adebese, the police prosecutor, had asked the court to remand the defendant for 21 days.

The three weeks, according to the attorney, would give the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to draft legal recommendations.
However, in his argument, defence lawyer Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), contested the petition.
Olumide-Fusika pleaded with the court not to remand his client, saying he was unaware of any such application.
After his vehicle was halted on the Third Mainland Bridge, the son of the famed Fela Kuti was detained for slapping an officer.
Seun Kuti refused to make any statements during questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba.
According to his lawyer, Benjamin Hundeyin, a police spokesperson, proclaimed himself the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) by “issuing a report of his investigative work” in the media.
