The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said they will not call off the one-month warning strike that began on February 14th, 2022.
Today on Channels TV news, President of the ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, said that the union would not be backing down on the strike because the federal government has not yet kept their promises which were made to them years back.
ASUU have stated that they no longer want promises from the federal government, they do want action.
“For the past nine years or so, they have been giving us promises, but once the strike is over, they relapse. So, our colleagues are tired of these promises that they can’t fulfill. What we want are actions.”
He states that many schools have not missed any academic year because of the strike, revealing that the members of ASUU have sacrificed for the country’s educational system.

He added that many lecturers have not gone on leave for years as they try to meet up with the calendar, but there are rumors that Nigerian lecturers are being paid for doing nothing.
He explained that lecturers are paid for the work they have done, saying that anybody who says ASUU is paid after the strike is telling a lie.
He added that if the federal government had done its own part of the deal, the union would not be on a strike.
The President of the union admitted that the students have the right to protest, but added that their union is not happy with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) protest.
