Amotekun Arrest Suspects Linked To The Owo Church Massacre

The Ondo command of the south-west security network, code-named Amotekun, claims to have apprehended some suspects in connection with the attack on St Francis Catholic Owo Church.

On June 5, gunmen attacked the church in Owo, killing over 40 worshippers. The gunmen were said to have detonated explosives inside the church before opening fire on the congregation.

On June 9, days after the incident, Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior, stated that the attack was planned by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP).

Adetunji Adeleye, Ondo commander of Amotekun, told reporters on Thursday that the security network had apprehended some suspects linked to the church attack.

He stated that weapons and vehicles were recovered when they apprehended the suspects.

“We have arrested a number of those who perpetrated evil at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo. We have also recovered the vehicle they used last after the deadly operation. We have also recovered some of their weapons.

They came on motorcycles and hijacked a Golf vehicle. We have successfully recovered the vehicle and will soon arrest all the killers. ”
