All You Need To Know About Chike Akunyili’s Death

People in Anambra state are surprised that the late Professor Dora Akunyili’s husband, Doctor Chike Akunyili, has died.

Unknown gunmen shot and killed him in Anambra state, when he was returning from Enugu to honour the death of his late wife.

His wife, Professor Dora Akunyili, was the Director-General of the National Agency for Food & Drug Administration (NAFDAC) and Minister of Information, until she died on the 7th of June, 2014.

According to BBC Pidgin, Commissioner of Police of Anambra state, visited the scene of the incident today, Wednesday, September 29, 2021, and he ordered the tactical commanders of the Anambra Police force to stop the killings happening in Anambra state.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, also reacted to the death of the doctor. They released a statement saying that they were not involved in the death of Doctor Chike Akunyili.

“We do not have issues with Chike Akunyili and we did not kill him. Those who are behind this must stop this and stop using the IPOB name.” The statement said.

The senate honoured his death by observing a minute silence as they did plenary session today in Abuja.

The doctor’s son confirmed his death, adding that his father was going to Onitsha to honour his late mother, when the gunmen shot his car and killed him, the Police Officer who guarded him and his driver.
