Suspended DCP, Abba Kyari, Carries FG To Court Over His Detention

The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to order the release of the suspended deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari, from the custody of the NDLEA.

Abba Kyari was ordered to put the government on notice of the suit he carried to court.

The suspended DCP had taken the Federal Government to court and challenged his continued detention by the agency.

In the suit, which they marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, Abba Kyari had asked for the order of the court to immediately release him.

The suspended DCP, who is in NDLEA custody because of alleged involvement in hard drug trafficking, asked the court to admit him to bail on liberal conditions.

Abba Kyari said in an ex-parte motion that his lawyer, Obianuju Ikena, filed that he is suffering from chronic diabetes and needs medical attention.

In the brief ruling, Justice Ekwo did not agree with his immediate release but ordered him to be put on respondent (FG) notice.

The judge ordered him to serve all the processes that he had filed on the Federal Government.

The Honorable Justice Ekwo held that all the allegations that Abba Kyari made against the Federal Government are weighty and the court must give the government the opportunity to hear from him before they take any step.

They later fixed February 24 as the date for the parties to appear before the court.
