17 People Die Along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway After Bus And Tanker Collision

Seventeen people died along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeri after a passenger bus and a tanker collided with one another in a head-on collision.

Florence Okpe, public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ogun sector command, said the accident, which happened around 5am near Ishara bridge, involved a tanker that was coming from Lagos and a Mazda bus that was coming from Ibadan.

She said,

“The suspected cause of the collision is route violation and wrongful driving.” That means that the drivers did not maintain their lane as they were driving.

According to the commission, they are not sure how many people were involved in the accident, but they identified a total of 17 bodies.

“We recognised a male, a female and a child, while the other people were burned beyond recognition.”

He also added that it is not yet clear what might have caused the fire outbreak.

However, public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission’s Ogun sector command, Florence Okpe, said they have carried all the deadbodies to the nearest mortuary, FOS Morgue, and cleared the road. Now everywhere is free for people who want to move freely.

The FRSC Ogun sector commander, Ahmed Umar, said the crash was avoidable if people took caution and obeyed traffic rules and regulations.
