Tembisa Hospital Shooting: South African Police Confirm Their Officer Killed His 30 Year-Old Partner Who Was A Nurse In Her Work Place

The South African police confirmed that one of their men was involved in a deadly shooting that happened in Tembisa hospital in Guateng.

According to them, the officer shot and killed their 30 year old partner, Lebogang Monene, a nurse, at her workplace yesterday morning.

According to the statement, the officer drove into the facility in an official vehicle, then turned the gun on himself, and he is now in critical condition.

The incident left patients and staff in shock, the Gauteng Department of Health revealed in an official statement.

Guateng health authorities had first closed down the hospital after the incident but later reopened it to the public.

Tembisa Hospital said it was around 8am. Yesterday, a 30 year old police officer entered the hospital driving a state motor with blue lights on.

He parked in the Accident and Emergency Department parking lot.

Tembisa Hospital Shooting: Denosa condemns the killing of a nurse by on-duty police officer partner

The man later called his 30-year-old partner, who was on duty at that time, to go to the parking lot.

As she arrived, the officer opened fire on the enrolled nursing assistant and turned the gun on himself, the hospital said.

Unfortunately, the nurse died at the scene of the accident, while the police officer is now in critical condition.

Dr Nomathemba Mokgheti, who is the Guateng health commissioner, described the incident as unfortunate and said he is saddened by it.

When she visited the family of Lebogang Monene, she told reporters that the commission, together with the management of the labour union, will review and implement security measures that will enhance the protection of staff and patients.
