OAU Student Dies After Falling Into Soak Away

A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, has died after she fell into a soakaway.

The student of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, Ajibola Heritage Ayomikun, died after she fell in a soakaway in a private hostel in the Students Village.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, who confirmed the incident, said the University Management is saddened by the unfortunate incident.

Reports say when the incident happened, the school immediately mobilised the firemen from the university of Osun State and the OAU teaching hospital, which quickly got her out of the soak away.

The school revealed that they immediately carried her to the OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex where they confirmed her death.

OAU mourns as student falls into septic tank, dies

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, who led the management team to the scene, sympathised with the students and commiserated with the parents of the deceased.

Professor Ogunbodede, who described the incidence as tragic and unacceptable said they have launched investigations on what led to the student’s death and gave appropriate sanction to the people who are involved or anybody who they find culpable.

The Vice Chancellor, also has appealed to the students to remain calm and law abiding as the police have also launched an investigation.
