“It Is Against Islam”- Hisbah Say As They Invite Miss Nigeria Shatu Garko’s Parents Over Her Participation In Beauty Pageant

Sheik Harun Ibn Sina, the Commander of Islamic police who is also an Hisbah for Kano state, said they will invite the parents of the winner of Miss Nigeria, Shatu Garko, to discuss her participation in the recent beauty pageant.

The 18-year-old Muslim beat 18 other pageants to win the 44th edition of the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant, which took place on the 17th of December 2021. She is the first hijabi to win the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant competition.

Hisbah said the reason why they are inviting the parents of Shatu Garko is to tell them that it is illegal in Islam for their daughter to participate in any beauty contest.

“We (Hisbah) have confirmed that Shatu Garko is a Muslim from Kano state and her parents come from Garko local government area. Kano is a sharia state and this is why we will not allow this matter to go untouched.”

“We will invite the parents to discuss with them the actions of their daughter and the fact that what she did is illegal in the Islamic religion, in case they were not aware, so that she would not continue that path and also stop other Islamic girls or women from following her footsteps.”

Sheik Ibn Sina, who was a popular Islamic teacher before his appointment as the boss of Hisbah, used some Quranic verses and teachings from the religion to explain more.

In another verse of the Quran, God also instructed people to guard their eyes against watching sinful things like exposed body parts and also women not to expose their beauty to the outside world except their face, hands, and feet.”

The Boss of Hisbah also said that the organisers of the beauty pageant and other beauty shows also attract the wrath of God as it is something the Almighty dislikes.
