“Why We Arrested The Owner Of The Ikoyi Building Which Collapsed” – Lagos State Government
The Lagos state government said they rescued 10 people while the number of deaths has increased to nine.
The Lagos state government also revealed that the building that collapsed was approved as a 15-story building, not a 21-story building.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the state government has arrested the owner of the property.
“The owner of the collapsed 21-storey building, under construction for Ikoyi, got approval to construct only 15 floors. We have arrested the owner of the property and he will face the law because people have died in the disaster. ” General Manager of the State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, said.
“He got approval for a 15-storey building and he exceeded his limit. The materials he uses are so inferior and terrible.” The general manager revealed
The Director General of the State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said they recovered five dead bodies during the rescue operation which happened at midnight.
They rescued two adult males and one adult female, and the agency paramedics gave them first aid.
“At about a few minutes to 12:00am, we rescued another adult male in the rain and carried him to the hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, we recovered five adult male dead bodies and handed them over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.” Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the DG of the State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), said.
