Facts You Need To Know About Eid-El-Maulud

Eid-el-Maulud is a very special day for Muslims as it is a day to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammed.

The real date of the birth of the Prophet Muhammed is still not clear. That is why Muslims celebrate his birthday on different days.

The Prophet Muhammed was born in Mecca, the former name of Saudi Arabia.

Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Maulud (known as ‘birth’ in English) in many Islamic countries but not all. Some countries that have a high population of Muslims, like India, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Libya, and others, celebrate the special day.

But Eid-el-Maulud is not celebrated in Saudi Arabia and Qatar as the celebration is forbidden. The two countries also do not mark Eid-el-Maulud as a public holiday.

Some Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammed’s birthday is not worth celebrating, while some of them believe that Eid-el-Maulud is against Islamic law.

In many countries, Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Maulud with street parades and mosque prayers. They decorate their houses and mosques to honour Prophet Muhammed, and even decorate cities with candies that would be given to people for free.

Many Muslims donate food items, consumables, and others to charity and read poems about the Prophet Muhammed to children.

During the celebrations, some Muslims don’t celebrate in a grand way. They read the Koran and fast during daylight to honour the Prophet Muhammed.
