Tems Reflects on the Challenges and Blessings of Being Nigerian

In a recent interview with Kiss FM, London, Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, shared her perspective on the challenges of being Nigerian while acknowledging the inherent blessings that come with it.

Tems described the experience of being a Nigerian as “tough,” emphasizing the hardships faced by individuals in the country. However, she offered a positive outlook, noting that despite the challenges, there is a unique blessing attached to being Nigerian, especially if one leverages their talents in environments where they will be appreciated.

The Oscar-nominated artist expressed admiration for the resilience of Nigerian women, calling their existence “a miracle.” She conveyed the belief that tapping into one’s gifts, embracing individuality, and fearlessly taking it to a global stage is an honorable endeavor.

“Being a Nigerian woman is a miracle. Because being a Nigerian, for anybody, is tough. But I think if you can tap into your gifts and own who you are and be unapologetic about it, and take that to the world, that is an honour,” Tems shared during the interview.

She went on to express a special fondness for Nigerian women, considering them to be exceptionally blessed. While acknowledging that everyone is blessed in their own way, Tems emphasized the unique and dear qualities of Nigerian women, considering it a significant blessing to be a part of this vibrant community during the present era.
